The Discipline of Zoology, IIS (deemed to be University) Jaipur organized a Guest Lecture on Structural variations in skeletal framework of Vertebrates for all UG (Honours) Semester III and PG final year students. Lecture was delivered by Dr. Ghanshyam Kachhawa on September 21, 2022. He enriched the students with the knowledge of basic of Osteology viz. bone structure, importance and functions of bones and skeletal system in living organisms. He explained all parts of the vertebrate skeletal system by drawing them on board. He touched upon the components of the syllabus and highlighted the key points related to comparison and identification of various bones amongst different vertebrate groups.

An interactive session was organized by Discipline Zoology on 13 April 2022 to aware the research scholars about the current scenario of research. Dr Hardik J. Pandya,  Assistant Professor, Department of Electronic Systems Engineering, Division of EECS, IISc Bangalore and Dr Neetu Bhaskar (Alumnae of the Department), formerly research associate at IISC Bangalore and currently working as postdoctoral research fellow at Temple University School of Pharmacy, Philadelphia. They interacted with the PhD research scholars, answered their queries regarding research and gave an idea of latest research trends. They also make them aware about how they can develop research skills and collaborate with other universities based on their expertise area.

An in-house workshop was organized by the Department of Zoology on 26th April, 2022. In this workshop, research scholars Tejinder Kaur, Kusum Rani and Hansa Gupta imparted their knowledge of different techniques as per their expertise to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. Hansa Gupta gave an introduction of the estrous cycle, its phases and explained to the students how they can take vaginal smear and identify the different phases of estrous cycle. Tejinder Kaur gave a detailed explanation of chick embryo development and methods to study teratologic effects in chick embryos by different methods. Kusum Rani explained the significance of various sperm parameters in evaluating male fertility. She made students aware about the techniques which can be used for evaluating sperm count, motility, viability etc. The workshop was found to be fruitful for the students as they became well versed with all the techniques.

The orientation session inDiscipline of Zoology was held on 1stSeptember 2022 at 1.45 p.m. in Room No. A 604.The session started with the brief introduction about the department; all the faculty members were present during the session. The first semester students of B.Sc. (Pass course), B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. were acquainted with the curriculum, faculty profile, time table and other details through a power point presentation.

The information regarding Library facilities and e-resources available in the library were also covered in the orientation session. They were also told about the Do’s and Dont’s to be followed by the students in the library as well as in campus. Students were made aware about the Laboratory Rules and Good Laboratory Practices to be followed during the practical classes.

Besides this, students were also given information regarding Credit Templates, Examination Scheme and pattern of CA and SEE question papers.

Students also got to know the placements of alumnae of the department through the presentation. This was followed by an interactive session with senior students; they cheered up the freshers with a small activity and a quiz based on orientation programme. Research Scholars of the discipline of the Zoology shared their research experiences and future prospects of their thrust area of research. They also gave the tips on preparation for various competitive exams including NET-JRF, SET, GATE etc.

In the end feedback link was shared with the students to get their views regarding this session.
