Zoology

The Department of Zoology at The IIS University was established in the year 1995. The department is housed in the ‘A’ block of the campus. It offers an array of programmes which include Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Honours, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy with specialization in Cancer and Radiation Biology, Environmental Toxicology, Cell and Molecular Biology and Human Genetics. The department, under the able guidance of Prof. Pradeep Bhatnagar (Dean), has well qualified faculty members and is strengthened by well-equipped laboratories, animal house and trained technicians. Department has honour of receiving research projects from prestigious organizations like DRDE, DST, UGC, etc. The core area of research are Bioremediation, Anti-Mutagenic activities, Environmental and Developmental Toxicology, Cancer Biology, Reproductive Toxicology, Teratology, Genotoxicity, Microbiology, Fish Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Entomology and Entomology. The work done in these areas is well documented in the form of research publications in various National and International Journals. The staff members from the department regularly attend conferences, seminars and workshops and also present posters and papers in the same. The faculty is actively involved in writing editorials and books. With the efforts of the department, the college has been recognized by DSIR, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Presently, there are 7 research scholars  in the department. The research of these scholars is supported by various projects fellowships and grants like infrastructure grant for promotion of basic scientific research and College with Potential of Excellence (CPE) by UGC. To develop research aptitude at Postgraduate level, students are encouraged to work on the latest research topics for their dissertation, projects and presentation.

Teaching pedagogy includes a number of modern teaching methods like Seminars, Field visits, Audio-Visual presentations, Wall magazines, Workshops, Guest lectures, Demonstrations and use of ICT resources, Quiz, Poster competition, Research paper presentations, Mock viva, Model making, Assignments and Conferences. The department tries to transmute its student into WORLD READY WOMEN.
