Program Learning Outcomes
M.Sc. ZOOLOGY

Post Graduate program in Zoology deals with the study of Animal Kingdom and the associated areas such as Systematics habits, habitat and Geographical distribution of all the animals; their structure, the evolutionary trend in the structure and function of various life processes.Theprogram also provides study of  advanced areas in zoology that includes biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, genes and differentiation, Immunology, computer applications in Zoology, biostatistics to name a few. This course is offered for candidates who are interested in the study of animals with greater insight into the subject. The minimum time required to complete the course is two years.
By the end of this course, the students will be able to:

PO1

Critical thinking and Problem Solving: Analyse the given scientific data critically and systematically and will have the ability to draw the objective conclusions. Know basics of cognitive biases, mental models, logical thinking, scientific methodology and constructing cogent scientific arguments.

An increased understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications of scientific principles is expected at the end of this course. Students will become critical thinker and acquire problem solving capabilities.

PO2

Research Aptitude: Keenly observe about what is going on in the natural surroundings to awake their curiosity and design a scientific experiment through statistical hypothesis testing and other a priori reasoning including logical deduction.

PO3

Employability: Apart from the research jobs, students can also work or get jobs in Marketing, Business & Other technical fields. Science graduates also recruited in the bank sector to work as customer service executives. Students can also find employment in government sectors. Often, in some reputed universities or colleges in India and abroad the students are recruited directly by big MNC’s after their completion of the course.

PO4

Applicability: Acquire the ability to engage in independent and self learning as well as to successfully pursue their career objectives in advanced education and in professional courses, in a 22 scientific career in government or industry, in a teaching career in the school systems, or in a related career following graduation.

Understand the importance of modern branches of science like genetic engineering for the improvement of human race.

PO5

Social Responsibility: Students are trained to be an individual with concern for the society   they live and to contribute at maximum, their skills and knowledge in the broadest context, for the development of the nation.

PO6

Transferable skills: Develop various skills like Use of IT (word-processing, use of internet, statistical packages and databases), Communication of scientific ideas in writing and orally, Ability to work as part of a team, Ability to use library resources, Time management and Career planning.

PO11

Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and development of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

PSO1

Develop a conceptual understanding of principles and importance of Zoology. They will gain knowledge deep up to the molecular level. The curriculum is so designed that the students can face the competitive exams like ICS, RAS, NET, SET etc.

PSO2

Develop deeper understanding of key concepts of Zoology at biochemical, molecular and cellular level, physiology and reproduction at organismal level, and ecological impact on animal behaviour.

PSO3

Elucidation of gene differentiation during embryonic development.

PSO4

Strengthening of genetics and cytogenetics principle in light of advancements in understanding human genome and genomes of other model organisms and manipulate the same in the benefit of the mankind.

PSO5

Learning handling DNA sequence data and its analysis which equip students to get employed in R&D in the industry involved in DNA sequencing services, diagnostics, and micro biome analysis.

PSO6

Understand the ultrastructure and function of cell membranes, cell communications, signaling multi functionality of cells.

PSO7

Understand the issues of environmental contexts and sustainable development, conserving biodiversity and natural resources.

PSO8

Perform procedures as per laboratory standards in the areas of Biochemistry, Anatomy, Bioinformatics, Taxonomy, Ethology, Cell Biology, Reproduction and Ecology. This hands on training will help them to use the techniques in multidisciplinary way and design experiments, analyze and interpret data to reach to an effective conclusion.

PSO9

Carry out innovative research projects through best problem-solving skills thereby making them to use knowledge in depth.

PSO10

Project, Seminar and Dissertations will build up research aptitude among the students With this the students will be trained to handle research and analyze it.
