Dr. Suresh Nimesh, Assistant Professor,  Department of Biotechnology, Central University of Rajasthan delivered a talk on Thesis and Reference Managerial System on 16 March 2017 at the The IIS University Jaipur. He talked about thesis writing, citation pattern, endnote reference manager and plagiarism softwares which are inevitable part of scientific research. His talk unravelled new dimensions of thesis writing to students, research scholars and faculty.

Department of Zoology organized Quiz competition for BSC Honours and Post graduate students of Zoology to celebrate National Science Day on 28 February 2017. There were three groups A, B and C and group C emerged as winners. The whole event was funfilled with enhancing knowlege of the students.

Eminent ethologist and Professor Reena Mathur delivered a lecture on animal learning and behaviour on 20 February 2017 for the PG students of Zoology. She has authored 7 books on behaviour of birds and mammals. The lecture was highly beneficial for the students as it enhanced their ability to understand and interpret complex  learning behaviour of animals.

The Department of Zoology, IIS University, Jaipur organized a one day Workshop on “Virtual Demonstration of Animal Dissection using software” on February 10th, 2017.

Recently the practice of dissection has come under increasingly critical scrutiny by UGC and educators are concerned about the sacrifice of animals for teaching purposes. Laboratory-based activities’, including dissection, is to be replaced in a phased manner with the acquisition of appropriate technology. Keeping this as an objective this workshop was organized to create awareness  and sensitization for animal suffering and death, it is important for teachers to be informed of alternatives to dissection and to employ them appropriately.

Eminent speaker Prof. K.K. Sharma (Former VC, MDS University, Ajmer) delivered a guest lecture on alternatives available to minimize  mass dissection of animals in the curriculum of higher education. Additionally, there was an onscreen demonstration of virtual softwares for the faculty members and students.

Head of the Zoology Department, Dr. Lata Shahani summed up the highlights of the workshop to the participants and proposed vote of thanks at the end.

Students of M.Sc and Zoology (Hons.) visited Jaipur Saras Diary situated at JLN Marg on 20.1.2017. Total 70 students went for the visit. Diary officials were very cooperative and their representatives made the students familiar with various milk processing techniques like pasteurization, heat treatment of milk at various temperatures and its significance. Manufacturing and nutritional value of various diary products like ghee, butter, cheese and paneer were also told  to the students. Students also visaulized  the whole industrialization process and setup was explained  to the students. He also explained the process of community collection of milk from areas nearby Jaipur and its quality assurance tests which are performed in different milk collection booths. The visit was highly beneficial as the students learned about the functioning of diary industry.

Dr MS Malhotra consultant and former Deputy Director NIMR New Delhi, delivered a guest lecture on Prevention and Control of Vector Borne Diseases on 16 December 2016 in the AV Hall. He is an medical entomologist who has worked in the field of taxonomy and sibling species of Anopheles, the malaria vector. He enlightened the students on the different aspects of vector control methods and prevention of vector borne diseases. His immense knowledge enhanced the awareness among students to prevent them from mosquito bites and deadly diseases like malaria, dengue and chikungunya.

Department of Zoology organized an awareness lecture on Dengue and Chikungunya in AV Hall on 22 September 2016. The cases of Dengue and Chikungunya are on the rise and awareness about its prevention is not adequate. Sensing the need of the hour, faculties felt it is essential to educate students about this two disease.
Dr. Lopamudra Guha who has done her research work on Dengue and Chikungunya vectors (Aedes) from DRDE Gwalior told students about the virus, mode of transmission and preventive measures which can combat these deadly diseases. Her topic of lecture was "Battling against the menace of Dengue and Chikungunya.' The lecture benefited students across all disciplines.
