Objective: 

Course objectives:

This course will enable the students to –

1. Construct knowledge about various fixation and staining techniques using different biological specimens.

2. Appraise their knowledge about different mitotic stages by preparing temporary slides of the onion root tip and visualizing the stages by their key features.

  2. Fixatives:- Carnoys, Bouins, formalin
  3. Stains:- Acetocarmine,Acetorcein, Eosin, Haematoxylin Double & Single staining :
  4. Staining of Euglena, Hydra, Obelia, Foraminiferous shell, Sponge spicules, Sponge gemmules,
  5. Spongin fibre
  6. Preparation of permanent slide to show the presence of Barr body in human female blood cells/cheek cells.
  7. Mitosis- Onion root tip (Temporary Slide preparation) and study of permanent slides Meiosis- Study of Permanent slides
