A workshop was organized by the Department of zoology, IIS (Deemed to be University) Jaipur  in which Dr. Rajbala Verma Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Rajasthan shed her expertise to post graduate students. She gave a lecture on Genotoxicity and Chromosomal Abberation Assay. Chromosomal aberrations are abnormalities in the structure or number of chromosomes and are often responsible for genetic disorders. Chromosomal abnormalities can result from either a variation in the chromosome number or from structural changes. These events may occur spontaneously or can be induced by environmental agents such as chemicals, radiation, and ultraviolet light. Visible changes to chromosome structure and morphology have played a very important part as indicators of genetic damage in both clinical and cancer studies. Postgraduate students have research dissertation in their curriculum in which they have to choose some research problem. So they learnt this techniques by which they can assess genotoxicity of any chemical or compound. Dr.  Rajbala Verma explain the technique in detail followed by practical demonstration.  This workshop proved very helpful for students.

On 20 January 2018, the students of the IIS University (B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc.) visited the Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur and enriched their knowledge about avifaunal diversity. The zeal to learn motivated them to identify the faunal diversity. Nearly more than 100 species of birds and 10 species of other fauna were identified by them. The visit to the park was an enlightening effort to make them learn in the lap of Mother Nature. They not only identified the different fauna of the park, but they were able to visualize different ecological and behavioural interactions. The whole experience for them was very refreshing and unforgettable. The trip was an effort to promote awareness about wildlife and its effective management. Young minds were rejuvenated with the importance of wetlands, migratory birds, forest conservation, community interactions etc. that will surely ensure in betterment of wildlife and their protection in future.

Post graduate students of Department of Zoology participated in Anweshan West Zone Student Convention 2018 in Ganpat University, Mehsana. Anveshan 2018 aims at identifying and nurturing research talent of the young and budding researchers in the country. Launched by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the convention attracts young scholars and researchers from various universities. Envisaged as a zonal and national level competition, Anveshan 2018 acts as a platform for emerging researchers to express their ideas that can lead to innovative research initiatives. It also presents the research and innovation happening in the universities. The students presented there dissertation work in poster presentations and 50 universities from western India participated in it.

Department of Zoology, The IIS University, Jaipur, organized an educational visit to
EXHIBITION ON LIFE SCIENCE at Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur on February 21, 2018. It was an amalgamation of fun and knowledge. The exhibition gave information about latest medical equipment and modern day diseases and their treatment. It was useful for spreading the awareness about Medical Science to students, importance of blood donation with the help of models and mannequin. Human body and its functions were demonstrated on human body parts.
This exhibition provides an opportunity to students to acquire knowledge about new procedures in medical science with knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, they also learnt about health and new diseases. Students also learnt the techniques of basic life support system. The overall experience of the exhibition was overwhelming for the students as this exhibition is held once in every twenty years.

The Department of Zoology organized a guest lecture of Dr. Nitu Bhaskar, an aluminae of ICG and presently working as Research Associate in Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore. She is working in the field of biomaterials for drug delivery and toxicity of nanoparticles. Her lecture enlightened students about the possible research domains in the field of nanotechnology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

The Department of Zoology, The IIS University organized an interactive session in AV Hall with Dr. Kerry M Kreiger an international environmental scientist, USA. His talk was on biodiversity and related environmental issues. He is an executive director of “SAVE THE FROGS” foundation a non-profit organization, which works in 57 countries including India for the conservation of amphibians and biodiversity. Since 2008, SAVE THE FROGS has been at the forefront of worldwide to protect amphibian populations and to promote a society that respects and appreciates nature and wildlife. SAVE THE FROGS organize educational events, rallies, and awareness programs in 57+ countries, helping to raise awareness, implement new legislation, create and restore wildlife habitat, empower the next generation of amphibian conservationists and introduce millions of people to the wild world of frogs. Dr. Kreiger enlightened the students and faculty with his words of wisdom. Dr. K.K. Sharma, former Vice Chancellor MDS University, Ajmer who accompanied Dr. Krieger during this visit also emphasized the importance of biodiversity and the need to conserve frogs (amphibians). The event was concluded by the vote of thanks of Dr. Lata Shahani, Head of the Department of Zoology, The IIS University.

The post graduate students of Zoology Department visited Post graduate institute of Veterinary Education and Research (PGIVER) on 19 February 2018. Dr. Vikas Galav gave an insight about the research done on milk quality and testing and Dr. Dahiya showed various latest instruments in the lab and explained their working. The students also visited the campus at Jamdoli, Agra Road where they were acquainted with indigenous breeds of cows and also visited poultry farm. It was a wonderful experience for the students who gained practical Knowledge as regards to animal science and latest research in the field of veterinary science.

One day symposium was organized by the Department of Zoology on 2 September 2017 to fill the knowledge gap and sensitize the different stake holders (students, research scholars and faculty members) about the legal frame work of the country and its sanctity, regulatory bodies , basic components of animal house, record keeping of the experimental animal models.

The session started with lamp lighting followed by Saraswati Vandana. The welcome address was given by Dr. Pradeep Bhatnagar, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences in which he highlighted the significance of using right methods during handling of animals during research experiments.

The first session began with lecture by Dr. Vikas Galav on “Regulatory framework of animal experiments in India & Importance of record keeping”. He discussed the importance of animal welfare emphasizing on the 3 R’s -  Replacement, Reduction & Refinement  & the 4th R- which is the responsibility of the researchers to pursue research in a well defined way causing less exploitation of animals. He also discussed regulatory bodies like CPCSEA which supervise the breeding & equipments on animals in various agencies where are used for experimental  purposes. Steps to register an animal house were also explained, Sir also made us aware about IAEC, its composition, its role in research role of CPCSEA nominee, Importance of record keeping types of records that should be maintained.

Second session was addressed by Dr. Ganesh Sharma. He discussed how different types of drug treatments like analgesics, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic can be given to different animal models.
