Course Objectives:
This course will enable the students to
1. Develop an understanding of the structure and functions of basic components of  prokaryotic architecture and eukaryotic cells and their organelles.
2. Analyzing comprehensive knowledge about an overview of cell theory, role of membrane in transport of molecules across the cell and how these cellular components are used to generate and utilize energy in cells.
3. Distinguish between the process of cell division in somatic and germ cells.
4. Develop understanding of Mendelian inheritance patterns & laws of heredity, Interactions of Genes and their expressions, process of crossing over and linkage in genes etc.

Cell Biology  &

Genetics I

The students will -

CO5: Differentiate the

structures and purpose of  basic components of  prokaryotic and eukaryotic  cells, especially

macromolecules,

membranes, and organelles.  CO6: Relate the structure,  function and composition of  the plasma membrane.

CO7: Conceptualize the  importance of nucleus and its  components and process of  cell division

CO8: Judge how the  endoplasmic reticulum and  golgi apparatus interact with  one another and participate  in molecular trafficking in  the cell.

CO9: Assemble detailed  knowledge about the patterns  of Mendelian inheritance and  interactions of Genes and  their expressions.

CO10: Compare the role of  crossing over and linkage in  heredity and cytoplasmic  inheritance.
