Objective: 

Course Objectives:

This course will enable the students to

1. Design and conduct experiments, using drosophila as experimental model and study its molecular biology and genetics.

2. To develop an understanding about characteristic features of different specimens from phylum annelida to echinodermata

3. Understanding the scientific aspects and development of diverse animal kingdom

The students will be able to –

CO24: Enhance knowledge about animal kingdom by studying representative animals from each phylum.

CO25: To identify and describe different laboratory specimens based on their classification and characters.

CO26: Students will get hands-on experience of various molecular biology and genetics techniques using drosophila as a model.

Study of museum specimens and slides:
Phylum  Annelida-Nereis, Heteronereis-parapodia, Earthworm, Leech
Dissection (demonstration only): Earthworm- Anatomy, Digestive, Nervous System
Permanent mount:Septalnephridia, Ovary,Nerve ring.
Phylum Arthropoda: Daphnia, Cyclops, Scorpion, KingCrab, Crab, Eupagurus, Balanus, Millipede, Termite, Centipede, Praying-mantis, Peripatus
Phylum-Mollusca:  Chiton, Unio, Dentalium, Nautilus, Loligo, Octopus, Sepia
Larval forms- Miracidium, Sporocyst, Redia, Cercaria, Cysticercus larva, Nauplius,Zoea,Mysis,cypris,Megalopa.
Phylum Echinodermata: Echinus, Starfish, Cucumaria, Antedon

Study of Drosophila life cycle & idea about its culture
Identification of Male & Female Drosophila
Identification of Wild & mutant (Yellow body, Ebony, Vestigial wings, White eye,Apterous) of Drosophila.
Study of permanent prepared slide - Sex comb, Salivary gland chromosomes
Identification of Blood groups(A,B, O & Rh factor)
