Objective: 

Course objectives:

This course will enable the students to -

  1. This course will enlighten the students about the importance of biological macromolecules, structures and configurational properties.
  2. This course also provides the students with an appreciation and an understanding of key metabolic biochemistry concepts.

Biochemistry

Students will be able to:

CO12: Understand the concepts of biocatalysts,    enzyme activity and its kinetics.

CO13: Acquire the detailed knowledge about the structure, classification, physico- chemical properties and biological significance of carbohydrates, amino acids, proteins and lipids.

CO14: Illustrate the anabolic and catabolic pathways of different cellular biomolecules, rate-limiting steps and energetic pathways.

CO15: Correlate the defective enzymes and inborn errors of metabolism.

Inborn errors of metabolism: Galactosemia, Lactose Intolerance, Glycogen storage diseases.

        Inborn errors of metabolism: Niemann pick disease, TaySach’sdisease, Gaucher’s disease, Krabbe’s disease

    Amino acid degradation:Deamination reaction- Oxidative and non oxidative deamination reaction, Transamination and Transdeamination, Decarboxylation, Ornithine cycle of urea formation , Fate of carbon skeleton of amino acids(Metabolism of individual amino acid excluded)

Inborn errors of metabolism:  Alkaptonuria, Phenylketonuria, Maple Syrup, Tyrosinemia, Albinism ,Urea Disorders.
