Objective: 
Course objectives:  
This course will enable the students to 
1. Gain hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques like gel electrophoresis.
2. Examine Polytene Chromosomes and estimate DNA.
3. Enhance understanding of quantitative estimation of RNA and DNA, and interpret electron micrographs of DNA replication and transcription.

1. Study of Polytene chromosomes from Chironomous / Drosophila larvae 
2. Isolation of Eukaryotic DNA
3. Quantitative estimation of salmon sperm/calf thymus DNA using colorimeter (Diphenylamine reagent) or spectrophotometer (A260 measurement) 
4. Quantitative estimation of RNA using Orcinol reaction 
5. Study and interpretation of electron micrographs/ photograph showing 
(a) DNA replication 
(b) Transcription 
(c) Split genes
