Objective: 
This course will enable the students to
1. Develop an understanding for identification of the animal kingdom.
2. Analyze the role of taxonomy and systematic in animal studies.
3. Imbibe the knowledge about the characteristics common to all living organisms and also will be able to distinguish characteristics unique to animals belonging to different taxonomic hierarchy.

Diversity and Evolution of Non- Chordates I: (Protists to Pseudocoelo m ates)

Practical

CO:7 Analyze protist diversity and reproductive strategies, focusing on Amoeba and Paramecium, including binary fission                        and

conjugation,ecological diversity by examining pond water samples, identifying species based on morphology and niche adaptation.

CO:8 Compare anatomical structures and ecological roles of sponge species like Sycon, Hyalonema, Euplectella, and Spongilla, noting habitat adaptations.

CO:9 Investigate marine cnidarian morphology, life cycles, and ecological roles of species like Obelia, Physalia, Aurelia, and Corallium, highlighting                       ecosystem contributions.

CO:10 Analyze helminth morphology, life cycles, and parasitic adaptations of Fasciola hepatica, Taenia solium, and Ascaris lumbricoides using slide examination               and microphotographs

CO:11 Demonstrate skills and record the concepts in the form of practical file and reflect on personal learning experiences and experimental outcomes during viva voce.

CONTENTS:
1. Study of whole mount of Amoeba and Paramecium, Binary fission and Conjugation in Paramecium
2. Examination of pond water collected from different places for diversity in protista 
3. Study of Sycon (T.S. and L.S.), Hyalonema, Euplectella, Spongilla
4. Study of Obelia, Physalia, Millepora, Aurelia, Corallium, Alcyonium,Gorgonia, Metridium, Pennatula, Madrepora
5. One specimen/slide of any ctenophore
6. Study of adult Fasciola hepatica, Taenia solium and their life cycles (Slides/micro photographs)
7. Study of adult Ascaris lumbricoides and its life stages (Slides/micro-photographs)
8. To submit a Project Report on any related topic on life cycles/coral/ coral reefs.
