Practical

Students will –

CO53: Relate and describe different laboratory specimens based on their external features and appearance and their categorical relation with various phyla.

CO54: Appraise hands-on experience of various molecular biology techniques including gel electrophoresis and chromatography and would learn about their applications in the research field.

CO55: Appraise hands-on practice of various microscopic techniques, occulometery, centrifugation and UV - visible spectroscopy.

CO56: Differentiate and evaluate various qualitative and quantitative biochemical techniques to differentiate between different biomolecules based on their physical and chemical properties.

CO57:Evaluate practical and theoretical aspects of different molecular techniques, physiological and environmental techniques

General Physiology
● Comparison of RBC and WBC in different groups of mammals.
● Photometric determination of hemoglobin in blood sample.
● Determination of MCV,MCH,MCHC of the given sample of blood
● Demonstration of the following in blood:Clotting time,Erythrocyte sedimentation rate,Haemolysis andCrenation
● Determination of Haematocrit value of blood sample.

● Standardization of Occulometer and measurements of tubular diameter,cell heights.
● Measurement of diameter of thyroid follicles.
● To study the structure & function of Centrifuge.
● To study the principle of UV & visible light spectroscopy.

Molecular Biology & Biotechnology
● Chromosomal counting in bone marrow cells of a mammal

Environmental Science and Wildlife Management
Water Analysis (minimum of five analysis methods)
● Determination of chloride in the given water sample.
● Estimation of total hardness of given water sample.
● To determine the acidity of water.
● To determine the alkalinity of water.
● To estimate total solid in water.
● To estimate the total dissolved solid in the water sample.
● To determine the dissolved oxygen in a given water sample.
● To determine the BOD of a given water sample.
● To determine the free CO2 of a given water sample.
● To estimate the Calcium hardness of water.
● To estimate Magnesium hardness of a given water sample.
Soil Analysis (minimum of five analysis methods)
● Determination of organic carbon and organic matter in soil sample.
● Determination of CO3-& HCO3- in soil sample.
● Estimation of chlorophyll in plant material.
● Determination of leaf area index and percent leaf injury of sample from polluted sites.
● Determination of residual chloride in water sample.
